Frequently Asked questions


Question- Is there a cost to take the course ?
Answer - There is no cost for the course.


Question- Will this class allow me to get my Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit?Answer- No. You must take a separate TENNESSEE HANDGUN CARRY PERMIT class, However, this is an excellent class to take prior to taking the TENNESSEE HANDGUN CARRY PERMIT class.


Question: How old do you have to be to take the class?
Answer: You must be 21 years of age (Current military -18 years of age) to take the course. Parents may bring children for the classes but the children will not be allowed on the WCSO range or allowed to shoot on the WCSO range.


Question- What is the schedule for classes?
Answer- The class is three weeks long, meeting Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7 – 9 p.m. and the two middle Saturdays from 9-11 a.m. Saturday classes are held at the WCSO gun range where you will practice what you learn in the classroom.


Question- Do I have to attend all 3 weeks of classes.
Answer- No..But it is highly recommended. We cover different items and speakers each class and we do prepare you to shoot safely on the range.


Question- Can I simply come and shoot at the WCSO range?
Answer- No..Only those students that have attended the classes on Tuesday and Thursday nights may shoot on Saturday Range Day.


Question- May we bring our children?
Answer- Children are allowed in the Handgun Safety classes as they may benefit from the safety training. However, any person, under age 21 will not be allowed on the range or range area. Active duty military personnel under 21 are the exception.


Question- Must I own a handgun or bring a handgun to attend the classes?
Answer- No. We can/will provide a handgun for you during range time if you need one. No rifles or shotguns are allowed.


Question- Do you provide ammunition?
Answer - We can provide typical ammunition for a nominal cost for WCSO range use only. We do suggest you bring your own ammo if you are bringing your own handgun. No handloaded ammo.
